ElKid

The students of Our lady of Mount Carmel were dazzled by the performance of El Kid by performers from Opera Australia.

El Kid told the story of the classic fairytale The Three Billy Goats Gruff set to the music of the opera Carmen by the composer Bizet.

Our Year Four learning space was transformed into a scene from a Mexican Fiesta. The children got behind the skills of the youngest goat Diego as he tried to convince his siblings that he was able to trick the Troll under the bridge in order to get to the Fiesta.

Ann Sapna in Year Four said "The acting was great. It was a nice show to see. It was unbelievable! I liked how the actors learned their lines. It was an excellent show."

Marcus in Year Three said, "It was fun to listen to and it was funny. There was a lot of suspense in it like when the troll popped up from under the bridge and scared everyone."

During Religion lessons, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 learned about the Carmel Impact Water Project. They explored the importance of supporting the Carmelite communities of Raimea and Zumalai in Timor-Leste by helping to restore water tanks and pipes to provide clean and safe water for daily use. On Wednesday, students filled buckets and cups with water and took part in the Walk for Water Challenge. This fun yet powerful experience reminded us that our brothers and sisters in Timor-Leste must travel on foot every day just to access a basic necessity — fresh, clean water — something we often take for granted in our homes and at school. On Friday, students came dressed in Something Blue — a colour symbolising our prayers for hope and change for the people of Timor-Leste. These are the moments when we are truly called to be the hearts and hands of Christ, showing love, compassion, and generosity to others. The week concluded with a Mission Liturgy, led by our energetic Spirit Squad. Students participated reverently, and we thank each and every one of them for their thoughtful engagement and their love for others throughout the week.
