How you can help
Parents are acknowledged as their children's first and most important teachers. You are welcomed into the OLMC community in a shared mission with Catholic education. Parents are valued as partners in education, and are encouraged to participate in the life of the school and to contribute to building community, through:
- the Parents and Friends Association
- fundraising
- working bees
- social events
- Parents Representative Council
- the ‘Parents as Educators’ program
- specific learning programs e.g. Multilit
- excursions
- sport carnivals
- parent education workshops
- parent/teacher/student conferences
- coordinating special activities e.g. book club
- canteen
- uniform shop
We look forward to working with parents in the education, care and support of their children. It is important to note that all volunteer workers in schools are required to undergo child protection training.
Parent groups
The Parent and Friends Association (P&F) and the Diocesan Parents Representative Council (PRC) offer many valuable opportunities for parents to become involved in our school and to work with the class teachers, school executive and the broader community.
The P&F is an organisation to promote the cause of education by bringing parents, friends, students and teachers into an active partnership. Its objective is to support the school in its Catholic education endeavours and, where possible, provide financial support for the school. It is open to all persons who wish to promote the objectives of the association.
The P&F meets at least once per term on a set evening as determined by the sitting committee. All interested persons are most welcome. The committee is elected by the general body at the Annual General Meeting which takes place early in Term Four.
The P&F organises social functions to enhance the spirit of the school. Various activities are undertaken throughout the year to raise funds for school improvements and educational resources that benefit the students of our school. The P&F communicates to the families of the parish through the school newsletter, meetings and circulars. They are also currently responsible for the annual working bee.
Parents & Friends Association
All parents and carers whose children are enrolled at the school are automatically members of the Parents and Friends Association (P&F). The Parents and Friends Association is an integral part of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wentworthville. It provides a formal structure and support network for parents and carers to participate in the activities and decision-making processes at the school, and to work for the benefit of the school and their children.
The Parents and Friends Association aims to:
- represent the interests of the whole parent body in a respectful manner
- help parents engage with the school and the education of their children and feel welcome
- work to support the school.
This means that we see our role as parents and carers as one of partnership with the teachers and the Principal in the education of their children. Consequently, parents share the responsibility of educating their children with the teaching staff.
