It was wonderful to see so many happy faces and hugs shared on Friday the 10th of May as the community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel gathered to celebrate the wonderful gift of mothers, grandmothers and mother figures with a delicious breakfast.
Mother’s Day Breakfast was followed by a mass - where we were able to give thanks and reflect on being blessed with our beautiful mothers.
A huge thanks to the P & F committee for coordinating our first ever Mother’s Day Breakfast. Thank you also to the team of helpers who helped ensure the breakfast was such a success. Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the event, it was lovely to see so many OLMC families sharing Mother's Day.

In Mathematics, Year 3 have been exploring measurement. We have been using different instruments such as measuring jugs and scales to measure capacity and mass. In Religion, we have been looking at the parable of the Fig Tree. We are making our own Fig Tree to show how our faith is helping us to grow and be fruitful disciples of Jesus. In Geography, we are learning about Australia and its neighbouring countries. We have been using Google Classroom to complete an investigation about a country in the Oceania region. In English we have been reading the book Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda. We have been looking at how authors use different forms of characterisation, including the use of indirect and direct characterisation.![763565872230263_1021635796423268-1]()

Over the past 4 weeks, Mrs Anderiesz, Mrs Diaz, Mrs Brackenbury, as well as the Mitri Family, have been conducting sacramental sessions for those students who are preparing to receive their sacrament of First Holy Communion. However, participation in the sacraments is not just an individual venture, it is something that happens within community because our faith is one that happens within community. Last week at assembly, each Grade was provided with a special frame with the names of the students they have been gifted to pray for. Over the next 5 weeks each Grade will dedicate a special morning prayer to those students, reminding all of us of the sacredness of the Eucharist and the presence of Christ in our lives.

Congrats to this weeks legends! We had merit award recipients, star card recipients and even a girls netball team who smashed the competition to bring home a medal. This term a new Faith In Action Initiative has begun. Students of OLMC have been blessed with the regular visit from Fr Alby each Tuesday lunchtime. Every week, Fr Alby joins students from years 2 to 6 who are interested in learning more about their faith. Last week, Fr Alby spoke to the students about the importance of showing respect to others who don't always show respect to us. He explained that, although it can be very hard, it's always best to show them the love and selfless actions of Jesus. In time, this will change the world into a better place. On alternate Tuesday's Fr Alby has also been offering Reconciliation to students who have made this sacrament. Students from years 2 to 6 have willingly come to experience this sacrament, offering their play time to reflect on the forgiveness and love of Jesus. We are incredibly lucky at OLMC to receive this very special support from our priests.

In Mathematics, Year 2 have been ordering, comparing and representing numbers through different representations such as number lines, 20s frames and different hands on materials. They have been able to explore these representations through various game based activities which students have really enjoyed! In Writing, Year 2 have been developing their own imaginative texts. Over the past weeks Year 2 have been given the opportunity to listen to the stories of many authors and how they came to publish their own books and stories. As they have been listening to these stories they have been in the process of publishing their own narratives. They have been exposed to the process of editing their writing by using peer and teacher feedback, as well as self feedback as they recorded themselves reading their stories aloud on an iPad. They are now publishing their creations on chrome books, seeing their pieces come alive.

Today our ladies represented OLMC at the Primary Sport Parramatta Diocese Netball Gala Day. They had an amazing day, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and passion for the sport. The atmosphere was filled with energy as teams competed in a series of matches, each one a test of strategy, agility, and collaboration. Today was more than just a competition; it was an opportunity for our ladies to build confidence, make new friends, and experience the joy of playing in a team.

Heavenly Father, We thank You for the gift of our fathers, who reflect Your love, guidance, and protection in our lives. Bless all fathers, and give them the strength to carry out their responsibilities with patience and wisdom. May they be a source of encouragement, teaching us through their example of faith and integrity. Grant them joy in their role, and may they always find comfort in Your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each of our P&F members for organising such a wonderful Fatherโs Day breakfast. Today, three of our Yr5 Champions, Patrick, BJ and Michael, who represent Greystanes FC, played in the grand final for the 2024 competition season. They have worked exceptionally hard all season, coming from 4th place on the ladder to win today. Their ball skills were superb, gaining majority possession with the keeper on fire with numerous saves. We are so proud of our boys

At OLMC our Pastoral Care and Student Management Policy is based upon the principles that lead to Positive Behaviour Support, which are a broad range of whole school, group and individual strategies for achieving significant social and learning outcomes. A major component of this strategy, which families will be a familiar with, are star cards. Star cards are a positive and proactive strategy which focuses upon recognising and celebrating the success of all in the learning environment. As Yr 5 have had an amazing start to Term 3, focusing on displaying active learning behaviours, being responsible for their learning and accepting challenges with a positive mindset and understanding personal boundaries, they received a very interesting reward day. The roles within our classroom were flipped, with our students attending school as the teachers and our teachers becoming the students. They also participated in a band challenge, one that would rival the skills of even our captivate teachers!
