guard of honour

It is with deep sadness that we sent this message and prayer to our school community to inform them that Mrs Pam Cooke passed away last night.

Pam was an integral part of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Wentworthville school community for 28 years from 1987 – 2015. She is now at peace.

The OLMC Community joined together with Pam’s family to say goodbye to Pam on Thursday. At the end of the service Year 5 and 6 students, staff both present and past joined with members of Pam’s family and friends to create a guard of honour.

A very reverent and special way for us to say goodbye to a very special person who gave so much of her time for us.

Pam Cooke

"Pam, a past member of our school community and friend to many of us, has passed after, and we come to You today to give thanks for the gift of her life, and for all of the ways in which she touched our lives and the lives of many children at OLMC.

Comfort her family and be very close to them in their sadness and loss. Help us to help and support each other, especially those within our school who feel most deeply the loss of Pam.

Be with her family and friends in a very special way. Help us to always care for each other in our school, and say thank you to You everyday for all of the people who love us and help us.

We place Pam into Your loving hands Jesus, and ask You to receive her into Your heavenly Kingdom, where she will be happy forever and ever. Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace."

Amen

During Religion lessons, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 learned about the Carmel Impact Water Project. They explored the importance of supporting the Carmelite communities of Raimea and Zumalai in Timor-Leste by helping to restore water tanks and pipes to provide clean and safe water for daily use. On Wednesday, students filled buckets and cups with water and took part in the Walk for Water Challenge. This fun yet powerful experience reminded us that our brothers and sisters in Timor-Leste must travel on foot every day just to access a basic necessity — fresh, clean water — something we often take for granted in our homes and at school. On Friday, students came dressed in Something Blue — a colour symbolising our prayers for hope and change for the people of Timor-Leste. These are the moments when we are truly called to be the hearts and hands of Christ, showing love, compassion, and generosity to others. The week concluded with a Mission Liturgy, led by our energetic Spirit Squad. Students participated reverently, and we thank each and every one of them for their thoughtful engagement and their love for others throughout the week.
